Requirements for the Norwegian Student Visa

When applying for a student visa in Norway, you must submit the following documents:

  • Application form for student’s residence with a photograph.
  • Copy of your passport.
  • Letter of acceptance from the institution.
  • Documentation of admission.
  • Plan of study and filled out form stating the progress of a student’s study.
  • Documentation of housing.
  • Documentation of subsistence.

Cost of studying and living in Norway on student visa

Norway makes use of the NOK (Norway Krone) for its currency. While studying abroad can be quite expensive, however studying in Norway does not have to be as Norway generally charges no tuition fees to the foreign students. Students, however, do have to pay their semester fee of NOK 300 to 600 each semester to sit for their exams.

The cost of studying and living in Norway depends on what city you chose to study in and how you will spend your spare time. In many parts of Norway, discounts are offered to the international students on everything starting from bus fares to various leisure activities. A number of scholarships are also available for the international students who wish to study in Norway.

Norway issues visas with time periods of only three months, which is quite suited for the international students looking for summer courses. All the students who are planning to study in Norwegian educational institutes will also be requiring a residence permit. You will have to apply for this as soon as possible as it takes quite a while to get processed, as without it you will not be allowed to enter Norway. Norway Student visa

If you are from EEA/EU/EFTA, you will first have to gain a student visa to study in Norway, however, there will be no processing fees charged. As a non EEA/EA student, you will be required to get a student visa along with a residence visa with an application fee of NOK 1100 around USD $180. Along with an application form, a copy of approved education institute, documentation of housing and proof of sufficient money will be required. You will need around NOL 90 000 for this which will be preferred to be deposited in the Norwegian Bank account.

Time required issuing the student visa

Typically, the issuance and procedure of visa takes around anywhere from two to fifteen days to process in the Norwegian Embassy or Consulate depending on the type of consulate that you sent your application form to and whether you choose to rush your visa.

How long will be the visa valid?

The maximum time frame of stay in Norway is currently limited to ninety days within a 180 day period. The most important thing to note here is that you should not leave the Schengen Visa area for a day and return to the restart the ninety day clock.
